What do I need to know about indexing?
Well virtually nothing. The only indexes used in BLU Acceleration today are to enforce primary key uniqueness constraints. The same way you define a primary key on a row-store table to enforce uniqueness, you’d do the same on column-store. But that’s where indexing ends which saves on storage and administration.
What do I need to know about maintenance and management?
That much of it is automated, like statistics collection and space reclamation. There is no need for indexing or performance tuning. Other functions, like backup and restore, are the same as for row-organized tables in DB2.
In which editions of DB2 is BLU Acceleration available?
BLU Acceleration is available in DB2 Advanced Workgroup Server Edition and DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition. For development and testing purpose only, the DB2 Developer Edition is also another option to access BLU Acceleration capabilities.
